Police Commemoration Day: Honoring Our Fallen Heroes
Police Commemoration Day was observed in Tura on Wednesday as part of the nationwide commemoration held across Meghalaya, with the ceremony taking place at the Police Reserve in Tura.
Police officers from the West Garo Hills District Executive Force (DEF) and from various police units serving in different locations assembled for the occasion and marched in a solemn procession to honour the nation and its guardians, paying tribute to the gallant, immortal police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
The commemoration is observed in memory of the 154 personnel who laid down their lives. As part of the day’s ceremony, the Roll of Honour bearing the names of the fallen police personnel was read out, and floral tributes were offered in salutation to the martyred personnel.
“On this day, on behalf of our department, we collectively remember the officers and valiant personnel of the West Garo Hills DEF who laid down their lives and made the ultimate sacrifice with courage,” the police officers said.
Wednesday’s observance was attended by the incumbent Superintendent of Police (SP) of West Garo Hills, Abraham T Sangma, along with police officers from various units, who joined together in paying homage to the police martyrs and reaffirming their commitment to the values the fallen personnel stood for.
