Soreng District Clinches Top NITI Aayog Health Ranking
Soreng District has secured the top national rank in the Health and Nutrition category in NITI Aayog’s June 2026 quarter Delta Ranking under the Aspirational Districts Programme. According to the Champions of Change Dashboard, the district scored 78.7, while its overall composite score rose from 49.5 in January 2026 to 55.5 in June, earning it third place across all programme themes.
The district administration attributed the achievement to focused monitoring, coordination among departments and efforts to ensure that health and nutrition services reached beneficiaries, particularly those in remote and difficult-to-access areas. Key measures included antenatal care, institutional deliveries, newborn care, immunisation, tuberculosis detection and treatment, referral services, nutrition programmes and the strengthening of primary health centres.
The administration reported 100% antenatal care registration, 99% institutional deliveries and 99% immunisation coverage among children below 15. Under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, Soreng recorded a treatment success rate of 97%, with 81 of 83 patients successfully completing treatment. During the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the district organised 146 Ayushman Arogya Shivirs over nine months and screened 7,636 people using handheld X-rays and confirmatory testing. Screening was extended to offices, hydropower construction sites, orphanages, old-age homes and monasteries.
Soreng also adopted an integrated screening approach for hypertension, diabetes, tuberculosis and HIV. More than 85% of the target population was screened for hypertension and diabetes through outreach camps, home visits and interventions in hard-to-reach communities.
The district’s “Hello Mann” initiative, conducted with the Mental Health Action Trust in Kerala, has provided free mental healthcare through weekly clinics at primary health centres and home visits for high-need and immobile patients. It has registered 112 patients, recorded 126 patient contacts and currently has 91 patients under active treatment.
District Collector Dhiraj Subedi said the ranking reflected “sustained district-level leadership, systematic monitoring and the collective efforts of the health system and community.” He credited the state government’s good-governance initiatives and continued support from the chief minister and Soreng’s legislators. The administration has pledged to close remaining service gaps and improve performance across all five thematic areas of the Aspirational Districts Programme.
