Bishnupur Extortion Case: Two Alleged PREPAK Members Held
Security forces in Manipur arrested two men identified by police as active cadres of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) in separate operations in Bishnupur district on October 1. The arrests were connected to alleged extortion activities, officials said.
According to the police, a team from the office of the Chief District Officer of Bishnupur arrested 22-year-old Laishram Rohit Meitei, son of L. Amu Meitei, from the Kumbi Sagolpat area. Meitei, a resident of Tuibong Meitei Leikai in Churachandpur district who was staying at Laisoi Relief Camp, was identified as an active PREPAK cadre.
In a separate operation, CDO-Bishnupur personnel arrested 27-year-old Sanjenbam Sanju Singh, son of S. Tomba Singh of Khabi Mayai Leikai. Police identified Singh as an active member of PREPAK (Pro) and alleged that he was involved in extortion.
Further investigation into the arrested men’s alleged activities is underway.
