Assam Road Crash: 23-Year-Old Dies; Uncle Suffers Fatal Heart Attack
A 23-year-old man identified as Pritam Nath died following a road accident in Assam’s Cachar district on the night of October 1, while his paternal uncle died of a heart attack shortly after learning of the tragedy. The accident occurred around 8 pm in the Narsinghpur area on National Highway 306, which connects Silchar with Aizawl.
The collision involved a car and a motorcycle. Pritam, a resident of Sundari Part II in Sonai, sustained serious injuries. Bystanders rescued him and took him to Silchar Medical College Hospital in an ambulance, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, according to reports.
Pritam’s paternal uncle, 65-year-old Bimal Nath, reportedly suffered a heart attack after being informed of his nephew’s death. Family members rushed him to hospital, but he was declared dead there as well. The two deaths left Sundari Part II in mourning.
Local residents said the Narsinghpur stretch of NH-306 has become accident-prone because of potholes and incomplete road work. They alleged that Pritam may have lost control of the motorcycle while trying to avoid a pothole, although the circumstances of the collision have not yet been established.
Officers from Dholai police station reached the scene and began an investigation. The damaged vehicles involved in the crash were taken into custody. Residents have urged the authorities to repair the highway and complete the pending construction work to prevent further accidents.
