Two ULFA(I) Cadres Held After Alleged IED Plot in Arunachal
Assam Rifles, in coordination with Changlang and Tinsukia police, detained two suspected ULFA(I) cadres allegedly preparing an ambush and an improvised explosive device attack on the Miao-Vijaynagar road in Arunachal Pradesh, officials said. The operation was launched on September 29 following intelligence about a possible attack in the area.
The detained men were identified as SS Lance Corporal Sahdev Rai, also known as Bappi Akhom, and SS Private Siraju Alam, also known as Shiraj Asom. Security forces recovered an AK-series rifle, three magazines and 90 live ammunition rounds during the operation.
According to security officials, the suspects were intercepted before they could carry out the planned attack. During questioning, they reportedly disclosed that they belonged to a larger group of about 20 armed ULFA(I) cadres.
Security forces said the operation thwarted a potential threat to personnel and civilians while providing information about the group’s network, methods and possible future plans. Search and combing operations are continuing in the area to locate the remaining suspected insurgents.
The Miao-Vijaynagar road passes through the remote Changlang district and the Namdapha landscape. Strategically important, the route forms part of the proposed Kharsang-Miao-Vijaynagar Frontier Highway, known as NH-913.
The Assam Rifles said the operation reflected its intelligence-led approach and continued efforts to maintain security across the region.
