Nine Bangladeshis Apprehended at New Bongaigaon Railway Station
Assam Police apprehended nine Bangladeshi men at New Bongaigaon Railway Station after acting on information that they had arrived intending to purchase train tickets. Police said the operation was conducted in coordination with the Government Railway Police.
Six of the men were detained near the railway ticket counter. Preliminary questioning and subsequent searches in and around the station led to the detention of three more members of the same group.
All nine men are being interrogated while authorities verify their identities, the circumstances of their entry into India and their travel plans. Police recovered six mobile phones, four Bangladeshi national identity cards, one Bangladeshi passport, three suspected fake Indian Aadhaar cards and five railway tickets from them.
Further investigation and verification are underway to determine how the men entered India and whether they were travelling together. No further details about their identities or travel plans were released.
