From Nov 1: 50% of Private Office Staff Must Work From Home
The Delhi government has announced sweeping measures to combat winter air pollution from November 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027. Government and private offices will be required to enable work from home for 50% of their employees, while staggered office hours, higher parking fees and construction restrictions will also be introduced to reduce traffic congestion, vehicle use, dust and peak-hour crowding.
Under the policy, institutions must provide remote-work opportunities to half their workforce, while the remaining employees will continue performing their duties in person. Work schedules will be revised according to attendance requirements, with the administration hoping that fewer simultaneous commutes will reduce road traffic and improve air quality.
Office timings will also be adjusted during the four-month period. Delhi Municipal Corporation offices will operate from 8:30 am to 5 pm, while Delhi government offices will remain open from 10 am to 6:30 pm. The changes are intended to prevent large numbers of people from arriving on the roads at the same time.
To discourage private-vehicle use, parking fees will be doubled at approved parking sites from November 1, 2026, until February 28, 2027. However, parking facilities operated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will be exempt from the increase.
The government has also imposed strict restrictions on construction activity. Until January 31, 2027, demolition projects and ongoing informal construction work that generate dust will be halted. In addition, all forms of construction and demolition will be completely prohibited in Delhi from December 10, 2026, to January 20, 2027.
