Food Minister Reviews Statewide Food Security Drive with SDMs
Tripura Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday held a virtual meeting with Sub-Divisional Magistrates across the state to review preparations for grassroots awareness programmes on food security schemes. The initiative aims to help eligible residents understand and access their entitled benefits through the public distribution system.
Chowdhury reviewed proposed outreach activities under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) and the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC). These schemes provide eligible beneficiaries with access to government-supported food distribution and related services.
He directed Sub-Divisional Magistrates and other officials to organise awareness programmes at the local level. The outreach should clearly communicate beneficiaries’ entitlements, available ration facilities and other relevant provisions in an accessible manner.
The Minister also called for closer coordination among concerned departments and field-level officials to ensure wider coverage across Tripura. He urged officials to adopt a public-oriented approach and prioritise reaching eligible beneficiaries in local communities.
The awareness initiative is intended to improve knowledge of food security provisions and help beneficiaries make more effective use of the benefits available under the public distribution system.
