The Zubeen Garg Foundation, in association with Zeal Creations, announced Project Notun on Sunday, September 27, an initiative to discover and nurture emerging musical talent from across Assam. Aspiring lyricists, composers, singers and music producers may submit samples of their work until October 18. The project was unveiled by Garima Garg, Rahul Gautam Sharma and Zeal Creations ahead of singer Zubeen Garg’s birth anniversary on November 18.
Selected artists from the four categories will collaborate to create three original songs, which the organisers plan to release on Garg’s birthday. The initiative seeks to bring together musicians with complementary skills, including writers who have lyrics but lack compositions, composers with melodies seeking the right words, and singers or producers who have yet to find a wider platform.
A panel of mentors comprising Salim Merchant, Vishal Dadlani, Jeet Ganguly, Kunal Ganjawala, Papon and Anurag Saikia will review the submissions and guide the selection process.
Organisers described Project Notun as a tribute to Garg’s commitment to young talent and his contributions to Assam’s music scene. “Notun” means “new” in Assamese, reflecting the initiative’s focus on finding fresh musical voices from the state.
