A delegation from the New Development Bank’s (NDB) headquarters in Shanghai, China, and its country office met Manipur Deputy Chief Minister and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister Losii Dikho on September 25 to review the progress of NDB-funded water supply and infrastructure projects in the state.
The meeting at the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office in Mantripukhri, Imphal, focused on the Manipur Water Supply Project and other NDB-supported initiatives involving water security, urban infrastructure, sanitation and climate-resilient water management.
Dikho urged the timely and effective implementation of the projects to provide reliable and sustainable drinking water, particularly in rural and underserved communities. He also called for closer coordination among the NDB, PHED and other relevant departments to overcome implementation challenges, accelerate pending work and ensure that public benefits are delivered without delay.
The discussion also covered strengthening water supply infrastructure in shortage-affected areas, improving distribution networks, ensuring the long-term sustainability of water sources and maintaining completed infrastructure. NDB officials said more than 80 per cent of the project work had been completed despite law-and-order challenges in Manipur.
The bank’s officials expressed their willingness to continue working with the state government on PHED projects as well as potential initiatives in health and education. Dikho welcomed the NDB’s support and reiterated the state government’s commitment to using the assistance effectively and completing the projects on schedule.
