Guwahati: Environmentalist Jadav Payeng, widely known as the “Forest Man of India,” has appealed for a small forest to be developed in the name of beloved singer Zubeen Garg, citing the late musician’s deep love for nature and wildlife. Payeng urged that a dedicated green space around Dibrugarh’s Bogibeel area would honour Garg’s memory while serving conservation goals.
Payeng said Zubeen Garg had a strong affection for rivers, animals and birds, and suggested that the proposed mini forest be created on the char areas surrounding the Bogibeel stretch. He believes these riverine lands could be planted and restored to provide a lasting natural habitat for birds and other wildlife, strengthening local biodiversity.
According to the appeal, the Bogibeel char lands offer suitable terrain for a commemorative green belt that would both preserve Zubeen’s connection with nature and act as a living tribute to his life and legacy. Payeng emphasised community participation as crucial to the initiative’s success, calling on residents and local groups to join in planting and stewardship efforts.
He further imagined Zubeen Garg’s songs quietly resonating through the trees, blending music with the natural setting. The appeal frames the project as a dual tribute: a memorial to the singer and a practical step toward environmental conservation in the Dibrugarh–Bogibeel area.
