Hojai Reschedules School Timings to 7:30 AM Amid Severe Heatwave
The Hojai district administration has moved school hours earlier across all government, provincialised and private schools in response to the ongoing heatwave and soaring temperatures, an order issued by the Inspector of Schools, HDC, Srimanta Sankardev Nagar, on August 14 said. The revised schedule took effect immediately and will remain until further notice.
Under the order, Lower Primary schools will run from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM; Upper Primary from 7:30 AM to 12:00 noon; and High and Higher Secondary schools from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
Schools have been instructed to hold morning assemblies inside classrooms or in shaded areas to minimise sun exposure. Electric fans must be kept in working order, and any defective fans are to be repaired or replaced without delay.
The order requires an adequate supply of safe drinking water on campus and asks that students be advised to carry water bottles. Schools are also permitted to relax dress codes during the heatwave: wearing blazers, waistcoats and ties may be waived, and students who find shoes and socks uncomfortable may be allowed to wear sandals.
Authorities have directed schools to maintain clean toilet facilities with sufficient water and hygiene supplies. If a student shows signs of heat-related illness or any other medical emergency, schools must immediately inform parents or guardians and seek medical assistance.
The Inspector’s order notes that the timings may be further adjusted depending on prevailing weather conditions. The measures aim to protect students’ health while keeping schools operational during extreme heat.
