Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Allegedly Threatened on Aug 15 Livestream
Guwahati: A Facebook account allegedly threatened to kill Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the live online broadcast of his Independence Day address, according to a report. The post appeared while Sarma’s programme was being streamed and prompted immediate concern among authorities.
The account was reportedly operated by a user identified as Abdul Mutaleb, who is said to have posted the threat during the live transmission. The reported message allegedly offered a monetary reward to anyone who carried out the killing and included pro‑Pakistan slogans and derogatory remarks against India.
Security agencies have taken note of the post and are working to establish the identity of the person behind the account. Officials are examining the user’s social media activity and other available information to determine how credible the threat is and whether it was intended to provoke or intimidate rather than to be acted upon.
Investigators are also assessing any potential links or motives suggested by the account’s wider online behaviour. No arrests or charges have been reported so far, and authorities say their examination of the matter is continuing.
Further details and any official statements are awaited as the probe proceeds.
