Mizoram MP Urges Union HM to Act on Recurring Landslides
Rajya Sabha MP Laltluangkima Khiangte has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, dated August 13, urging enhanced financial and technical assistance for Mizoram to tackle recurring landslides and other rain‑related natural calamities during the ongoing monsoon. The MP said the state has already experienced more than 100 major incidents linked to heavy rainfall and slope failures this season.
In the letter, Khiangte highlighted the scale and frequency of the landslides and sought greater central support to help the state respond to immediate relief needs and strengthen mitigation measures. He called for measures that would bolster disaster preparedness, rapid response and technical capacity at the local level to reduce risk to life, property and infrastructure.
Mizoram, a hilly northeastern state, is particularly vulnerable during the monsoon when intense rains can trigger slope instability, road disruptions and damage to homes and public utilities. Khiangte’s appeal stresses the need for financial resources and specialist expertise to address both short‑term emergency work and longer‑term resilience planning.
