Transformative MoU: Dhanamanjuri University & Miranda House in Manipur
On July 24, Dhanamanjuri University (DMU), Imphal, formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Miranda House, University of Delhi, at the Miranda House campus in New Delhi, marking a new academic collaboration between the northeastern university and a premier national college. The signing brings together institutional leadership to create a formal framework for cooperation in teaching, research and academic exchange.
The ceremony was attended by DMU’s Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, a DMU dean, Miranda House Principal Bijayalaxmi Nanda, and Geetanjali Elangbam of Miranda House’s Department of Botany, along with officials from both institutions and representatives of the Manipur government. On the same occasion, DMU and Miranda House’s Department of Botany exchanged a Letter of Intent to promote botanical research, environmental studies and sustainable practices.
Under the agreement, the partners plan joint field studies, resource sharing and specialised workshops aimed at strengthening practical research and capacity building. The collaboration will also support faculty exchanges, student mobility and interdisciplinary projects designed to broaden academic exposure and skills.
DMU and Miranda House said the partnership seeks to bridge the geographical distance between Manipur and the national capital by establishing sustained academic links and programme cooperation. Officials expect the MoU to expand DMU’s national academic footprint and provide greater opportunities for innovation among students and faculty.
The move aligns with broader efforts to connect regional universities with national institutions and to channel expertise and resources into area-specific research, notably in botany and environmental science. By pooling facilities and expertise, both institutions aim to enhance research outputs and training relevant to sustainable development.
Dhanamanjuri University was established under the Dhanamanjuri University Act, 2017, which came into effect on April 6, 2018, following a notification in the Manipur Gazette by the state’s Department of Higher and Technical Education. The university was created under the national Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) scheme.
