Sawant: Dharmendra Pradhan’s Resignation Shows Strong Accountability
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday lauded former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan after the latter stepped down, saying the decision reflected “a deep sense of accountability” that has marked his decades-long public life. Sawant made the remarks in a post on X, praising Pradhan’s record of public service across multiple roles.
In his post, Sawant said Pradhan had consistently served the country with dedication, tracing his rise from student politics to holding several key Union portfolios. The chief minister highlighted Pradhan’s contribution to policy and governance during his long political career.
Sawant credited Pradhan particularly for his work in education, pointing to the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) as a major achievement that will have a lasting impact on India’s academic landscape. He framed the NEP roll-out as a significant part of Pradhan’s legacy in the sector.
The chief minister also recalled Pradhan’s tenure as Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, noting initiatives such as the Ujjwala scheme that expanded access to clean cooking fuel for millions of households before Pradhan took charge of the Education Ministry.
Pradhan’s resignation came amid sustained protests at Jantar Mantar led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over an alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and reported irregularities in the CBSE’s on-screen evaluation process, a report said. Protesters had also demanded broader reforms in the conduct of public examinations.
Thanking Pradhan for his service, Sawant expressed confidence that he would continue to play an important role in nation-building under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and contribute to the vision of a “Viksit Bharat.”
