Manipur CM Grants Rs 1L to 26 Displaced, Chronically Ill: Lifesaving Aid
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday, July 6, handed out financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to 26 internally displaced persons (IDPs) suffering from chronic illnesses to help cover their medical treatment. The cheques were distributed at a programme held at the Manipur Trade Expo Centre Relief Camp in Lamboikhongnangkhong, Imphal West.
The beneficiaries, who are living at the relief camp, are undergoing treatment for long-term conditions including kidney disease and cancer. Officials said the aid is intended to ease immediate medical expenses for those whose treatment needs continue despite displacement.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the special assistance was meant to provide relief to displaced families facing difficult circumstances and assured that support for IDPs with chronic illnesses would continue. He expressed sympathy for those unable to return home, saying, “It is unfortunate that people are unable to live in their own homes,” and noted that the prevailing situation has forced many families to remain away from their native places.
Rajya Sabha MP Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, who attended the event, announced plans to provide weaving machines and additional support for livelihood activities for women staying in the relief camp. The programme was also attended by Kumbi MLA Sanasam Premchandra Singh, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, displaced persons and other government officials.
