James Basumatary Sworn In as BTC Executive — Landmark 92nd Inductee
James Basumatary, Member of the Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA) from the No. 16 Nichima (ST) constituency, was on Friday, July 3, sworn in as an Executive Member (EM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) at the BTC Legislative Assembly Auditorium Hall in Bodofa Nwgwr, Kokrajhar. With his induction into the council’s executive wing, Basumatary became the 92nd Executive Member of the BTC.
Speaking shortly after taking the oath, Basumatary thanked BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary for entrusting him with the new responsibility and pledged to work for the welfare and development of the people. “I sincerely thank BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary for appointing me as an Executive Member and for placing his faith in me. I am also grateful to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Assam for their support. I hope to discharge my responsibilities efficiently and work for the welfare and development of the people as an Executive Member of the BTC,” he said.
The swearing-in ceremony opened with a welcome address by Bhaskar Jyoti Manta, Secretary of the General Administration Department (GAD), BTC, and was formally initiated by A.N. Deka, Secretary of the BTC Legislative Assembly. The Oath of Office and Secrecy was administered to Basumatary by Mukesh Chandra Sahu, Principal Secretary of the BTC, after which he officially assumed charge as an Executive Member.
The event was attended by BTC Deputy Chief Rihon Daimari and Executive Members Derhasat Basumatary, Karmeswar Roy and Prakash Basumatary. Additional Principal Secretary Pranjit Kumar Wary, secretaries of various departments, senior officials and other dignitaries were also present.
The appointment comes as the BTC administration continues to strengthen its executive team to advance the implementation of development initiatives and governance programmes across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Officials said the new inclusion is expected to bolster the council’s administrative framework as it pursues infrastructure, welfare and socio-economic development projects in the region.
