Union Ministers, CM Assess Flood Damage in East Siang: Urgent Relief
PASIGHAT, July 1, 2026 — Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kiren Rijiju, accompanied by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, on Wednesday inspected flood damage in Boying village in East Siang district after the Sibo Korong river overflowed.
The delegation visited the worst-hit hamlets, inspected damage to public infrastructure, agricultural land and private property, spoke with affected residents and reviewed ongoing relief and restoration work being carried out by the district administration.
Chouhan said the Government of India would provide all possible assistance for relief, rehabilitation and restoration. He added that, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Centre is committed to supporting the state government in rebuilding damaged infrastructure and ensuring timely aid reaches every affected family.
Rijiju described the event as unprecedented, saying exceptionally heavy rainfall — with several locations recording more than 200 mm in a single night — triggered the floods in Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring Assam. He warned that while monsoon-related challenges recur annually, this year’s intensity caused widespread infrastructure damage and loss of life.
Reiterating the Centre’s support, Rijiju said the government will stand with Arunachal Pradesh to restore infrastructure and rehabilitate affected communities. Chief Minister Khandu said the state’s immediate priority is the safety and well‑being of citizens, providing prompt relief to families, restoring damaged works and expediting rehabilitation efforts. He assured residents that no effort would be spared to ensure assistance reaches every affected household quickly.
Also present during the inspection were East Siang guardian minister Nyato Dukam, MLAs Oken Tayeng and Tapi Darang, Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba, BJP state president Kaling Moyong and heads of concerned departments. (DIPRO)
