Shock Resignation: Former Raijor Dal VP Hari Prasad Saikia Quits
Hari Prasad Saikia, former vice president of Raijor Dal, has resigned from all organisational responsibilities and relinquished his primary membership of the party with immediate effect, according to a resignation letter he addressed to the party president on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Saikia said the move follows “careful thought and reflection” as he reassesses his future role in public and political life.
In the letter, Saikia wrote, “I have decided to resign from all organisational responsibilities entrusted to me, as well as from the primary membership of Raijor Dal, with immediate effect,” and asked the party leadership to accept his resignation and relieve him of all duties forthwith.
He expressed gratitude to the party leadership, colleagues and party workers for the opportunity to serve and for the support he received during his tenure. Saikia emphasised that, despite stepping away from the party, his dedication to serving the people of Assam remains unchanged.
“I remain committed to serving the people of Assam and contributing positively to public life in whatever capacity I may have the opportunity to do so in the future,” the letter stated.
Saikia did not offer further details on the reasons behind his decision nor spell out any immediate political plans, saying only that the resignation followed careful consideration of his future public and political engagement.
The resignation removes a senior figure from Raijor Dal’s organisational ranks and takes effect immediately; Saikia’s future political moves, and any response from the party, are yet to be announced.
