Rajasthan’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) in Jaipur has reported fresh leads in the probe into Babita Dhakad, also known as “Khadija”, arrested on suspicion of being a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) sleeper-cell operative. During her seven-day custodial interrogation, investigators say they uncovered links pointing to online radicalisation, attempted recruitment of young women and a possible honey‑trap module aimed at security personnel.
Sources familiar with the investigation told police that Babita had allegedly been in contact with Pakistan‑based handlers tied to the terror outfit for nearly two years and was being groomed for a larger role. Agencies are examining digital material that may indicate online training and radicalisation efforts.
Investigators say preliminary searches on her devices included queries related to suicide attacks and extremist content. Her mobile phones and other digital equipment have been sent for forensic examination to establish the scope of her contacts and activities and to recover deleted material.
Authorities allege she was trained to use social media to approach Indian Army personnel and attempt to lure them into honey‑trap situations. ATS officers are scrutinising her social media interactions and communication records to determine whether such attempts moved beyond initial contact.
Agencies have also found indications that she communicated with individuals across multiple states and may have been trying to influence and recruit young women into radical networks, using social platforms to spread extremist narratives and identify potential recruits.
A separate line of inquiry examines suspected plans to route financial assistance through cryptocurrency channels. Sources say Babita remained in touch with operatives via WhatsApp and other encrypted platforms; investigators are tracing possible funding links and checking whether transactions were initiated or received.
Probe teams are also looking into religious conversion aspects after investigators learned she had adopted the name “Khadija.” Officials say she used multiple mobile numbers and frequently deleted chats, photos and videos; forensic experts are working to recover those records.
The ATS is mapping her digital footprint, financial links, associates and communication channels, and believes further questioning could reveal more about the alleged network and its operations. Officials stressed that the findings are based on ongoing investigations and interrogation inputs, and that all allegations will be verified through evidence and the judicial process.
