Major Arms Haul: AK-47 & 26 Pistols Seized Near Amritsar Border
The Border Security Force (BSF), working with Punjab police, arrested one man and seized 26 sophisticated firearms — including an AK-47 and 25 pistols — near the India‑Pakistan border in Amritsar, officials said on Friday. The recovery also included 368 live cartridges, 48 magazines and a US‑made bullet‑proof vest, and a car used to move the weapons was impounded.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary inquiries indicate the accused acted on instructions from an associate based in Australia, who allegedly communicated the drop location through social media. The suspect has been identified as Rohan Khosla, a resident of Roopnagar colony in Amritsar.
According to a Punjab Police statement, the cache comprised one AK‑47 rifle, fourteen 9mm pistols and eleven .30‑bore pistols. Brands listed included Norinco Star Mark, Glock, Zigana, Taurus and Walther. The weapons were discovered in Khosla’s vehicle, a Hyundai i20 bearing a Punjab registration plate, during the joint operation by BSF Punjab and the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
Additional IG Sukhminder Singh Mann said the team acted on BSF information about a drone‑dropped consignment near Border Outpost (BOP) Shahpur. SSOC and BSF personnel intercepted Khosla while he was retrieving the shipment and conducted a search of the car, recovering the arms, ammunition and protective vest.
Police said Khosla appears to have been a local link tasked with moving the consignment to other recipients per directions from the Australia‑based contact. An FIR has been registered at the SSOC Amritsar police station under the Arms Act, relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam (civil aviation law).
DGP Yadav called the operation a major breakthrough against cross‑border arms smuggling and said further investigations are under way to trace forward and backward linkages, identify all associates, dismantle the trafficking network and determine any terror‑related connections.
