Dimapur: Nagaland’s teacher-student ratio stands at 1:12, adviser to school education Kekhrielhoulie Yhome said on Friday, calling the figure “very healthy.” He made the remark at an orientation for the Nagaland School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework (NSQAAF) pilot programme, which is being supported by the Central Square Foundation.
Yhome said the state has around 1,900 government schools, 880 private schools and about a dozen central schools, with a total teaching force of roughly 34,000. He presented these figures to underline the current staffing levels as the NSQAAF pilot seeks to assess and accredit school quality across Nagaland.
The orientation aims to familiarise school administrators and officials with the NSQAAF processes and standards, as the pilot programme is rolled out with Central Square Foundation’s support. Yhome’s emphasis on the 1:12 ratio framed it as a positive foundation for the quality-assurance exercise, signalling capacity for more individualized classroom attention as stakeholders begin implementing the framework.
