Two Burglars Busted in Guwahati — Gold Ornaments, Phones Recovered
A team from Basistha Police Station arrested two alleged burglars on Monday, June 1, in connection with a theft reported from Sanjogi Byelane in Guwahati’s Sixmile area, police said. The operation, led by Officer-in-Charge Kapil Pathak, resulted in the recovery of several stolen valuables linked to the case, including three mobile phones and multiple pieces of suspected gold jewellery.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Sahjahan Ali, alias Saru, 22, of Sipajhar, and Mafijul Hoque, alias Moinul, 31, of Gauripur. Both men were taken into custody after an investigation into the burglary at the Sixmile locality.
Police said the recovered jewellery consists of two suspected gold chains with lockets, one suspected gold ring and five pairs of suspected gold earrings. Investigators are cataloguing the items and will continue efforts to trace additional property and victims.
During questioning, the two accused allegedly confessed to the Sanjogi Byelane burglary and admitted involvement in multiple theft incidents across Guwahati, according to the police. The confession is expected to help authorities link the suspects to other reported cases.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused and further investigations are under way by Basistha Police to determine the full extent of the theft ring and recover any remaining stolen property.
