Rishabh Pant Unveils Shocking Reasons Behind Bold Move to Send Struggling Nicholas Pooran in Heartbreaking Super Over Loss to KKR in IPL 2026

In a thrilling encounter at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium on Sunday, April 26, the Lucknow Super Giants fought valiantly to level the score at 155 all against the Kolkata Knight Riders, only to succumb in a nail-biting Super Over. KKR set a competitive total of 155/7, bolstered by Rinku Singh’s explosive innings of 83 off 51 balls, which included a flurry of four sixes in the final over. The Super Giants matched the score with 155/8, led by Rishabh Pant’s measured 42 runs from 38 deliveries, pushing the match to a dramatic finish.

The Super Over added an extra layer of tension, immediately grabbing attention as Pant chose to elevate Nicholas Pooran to bat first, despite the West Indian’s struggles this season. Pooran was dismissed for a disappointing duck on the very first ball bowled by Sunil Narine. Pant, also under pressure, managed to score just one run before Narine sent Aiden Markram packing on the subsequent delivery. This left LSG with a meager total of 1/2, a score that KKR easily surpassed, clinching victory with Rinku Singh driving in the winning four on the first delivery of their Super Over effort, marking LSG’s fifth consecutive defeat.

After the match, Rishabh Pant acknowledged the growing pressure and called for a reset, urging the team to take collective accountability. “We definitely need a break. There is always pressure in these games, but we need to find answers internally,” he stated, emphasizing the need for unity rather than pointing fingers at individuals. He highlighted the importance of every player taking responsibility, remarking, “It can’t just be about one or two guys; it has to be about the whole unit.”

The decision to promote Pooran in the high-stakes Super Over sparked considerable discussion. Pooran’s form this season has been less than stellar, managing just 82 runs across eight innings with a strike rate of 81.19. Pant defended his choice, stating that the team discussed the situation and believed in Pooran’s potential to deliver in tough moments. “He might not be in the best form, but you have to trust your players in tough situations. They can come through,” he explained, expressing optimism that the break could lead to brighter performances.

Pant also addressed his decision to entrust the final over of KKR’s innings to young bowler Digvesh Rathi, who faltered under pressure, conceding 26 runs, including those four sixes by Singh. Pant justified his choice, suggesting that every bowler faces challenging overs during matches. “Sometimes you have to back bowlers in tough situations. I was looking for a wicket, but it didn’t work out this time,” he added, reflecting on the complexities of decision-making on the field.

Overall, the Lucknow Super Giants remain determined to regroup and find their stride as they prepare for the challenges ahead in IPL 2026. The team’s call for reflection and renewed focus may prove pivotal as they navigate a difficult season, with every match now carrying significant weight.

The match showcased not only the talent on display but also the pressures that come with the fiercely competitive landscape of the IPL. As the Super Giants look to rebuild, they hope that the upcoming break will offer a fresh perspective and the push needed to turn their fortunes around.
