Assam Police Pledge Swift Justice After Youth Killed in Sribhumi Crash
Sribhumi Police visited the home of 28-year-old Ajit Dhar at Vidyasagar Sarani on Friday, April 24, to offer condolences after Dhar succumbed to injuries in a collision involving a magistrate’s vehicle the previous day. Dhar, the family’s sole breadwinner, died while being transported to hospital following the accident.
A police delegation led by Additional Superintendent of Police Trinayan Bhuyan met the bereaved family and assured them that due legal action would be taken. Bhuyan said the force would pursue the case and help secure compensation for the family, noting the financial hardship caused by Dhar’s death.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Bimal Chettri and Traffic In-Charge Shankar Saha accompanied Bhuyan during the visit, underscoring the local police’s involvement in the matter.
According to officials, the collision occurred in a busy part of town when Dhar, who was riding a scooter, and 70-year-old Anupam Chakraborty were struck by the vehicle. Both victims were initially referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital because of the severity of their injuries. Dhar died en route; Chakraborty remains in critical condition and is being treated at a private nursing home in Silchar.
Bhuyan emphasized that the investigation will follow the law regardless of the vehicle’s ownership, saying, “Even if the vehicle belongs to a judicial officer, the law will take its own course.”
Police officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring accountability in the road accident and to providing the necessary support to the victim’s family as the inquiry proceeds.
