On April 17, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh began a road journey to Ukhrul district to strengthen coordination with remote communities and address pressing infrastructure concerns. The visit is part of an ongoing outreach drive aimed at improving basic services and connecting district needs with state-level action.

Singh’s first stop was Shangkai village along the Imphal–Ukhrul road, where he met residents and heard local grievances. Women from the Kuki community raised immediate concerns about the lack of reliable drinking water. Singh told villagers the matter would be treated as a priority and addressed after his return to Imphal.

Accompanied by MLAs and senior officials, the Chief Minister was later welcomed by a large gathering at Thawai Kuki village. Villagers there highlighted problems with road connectivity, water supply and access to healthcare. Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to improving basic infrastructure and said the concerns raised would be prioritised.

In a statement shared on social media, Singh said the government remains focused on ensuring delivery of essential services across the state and on pursuing equitable development for all villages. The visit follows similar road journeys to Jiribam and Senapati districts along key national highways, part of a broader initiative to deepen grassroots engagement.

Officials said Singh will stop at Ramva to review progress on a National Highway project before proceeding to Ukhrul. He is scheduled to meet Tangkhul community leaders and district officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, at the DRDA conference hall.

The programme also includes an inspection of an ongoing rigid pavement construction project and the inauguration of the Shirui Heritage Project at Shirui village. Singh and his team are expected to conclude the visit with a lunch meeting at Shirui.
