Congress Strikes Back at CM Over Passport, Asset Allegations
Singh said the Congress has formally approached both the Election Commission and the Enforcement Directorate over the matter, signaling the party is pursuing a legal course in parallel with its public campaign. The move, she stated, is aimed at taking the allegations through institutional channels while keeping them in the political spotlight.
She referenced claims that assets worth Rs 52,000 crore are linked to the Chief Minister and questioned whether RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh would continue to back a leader facing such serious accusations. Singh used the allegation to challenge the BJP’s moral authority and party alliances.
Broadening her attack, Singh accused the BJP of failing on a core election promise: tackling illegal immigration. She claimed that just 3,939 alleged infiltrators were deported over the past ten years under BJP rule, compared with nearly 90,000 expulsions during a comparable period of Congress governance. The party acknowledged that these figures will likely face scrutiny, given the politically charged nature of immigration data in Assam.
By combining legal petitions to the Election Commission and ED with a public narrative about alleged corruption and immigration failures, Singh framed the issue as both a rule-of-law matter and a test of political credibility. The allegations and the numbers cited are set to shape debate over accountability, party support from organisations such as the RSS, and the broader conversation on immigration in Assam.
