Agartala — A total of 181 candidates have been validated to contest the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections scheduled for April 12, 2026, election officials said. The Tripura State Election Commission said the nomination process concluded smoothly and the poll preparations are on track.

The nomination window closed on March 25, 2026, during which 186 individuals filed a combined 268 nomination papers across all 28 ADC constituencies. Following scrutiny, 181 nominations were declared valid and five were rejected for various deficiencies. Candidates have until Sunday, March 29, 2026, to withdraw their nominations.

Anurag Sen, secretary of the Tripura State Election Commission, said the process has been orderly. “Everything is proceeding smoothly,” he told reporters, while noting that the commission completed verification for all seats.

Major political parties are mounting wide contests across the council. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the principal opposition in the ADC, and the ruling Tipra Motha are each contesting all 28 seats. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has fielded candidates in 25 constituencies, the Congress in 27, and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) in 24. Candidates from the Communist Party of India (CPI) and several independents have also filed nominations.

So far, officials reported no violations of the Model Code of Conduct in the lead-up to the polls. With withdrawals expected to conclude by March 29, the final list of contestants will be clear well ahead of the April 12 vote, setting the stage for a closely watched ADC election that will determine representation and administration of Tripura’s tribal areas.
