Gaurav Gogoi Sees ‘Wave for Change’, Ramps Up Jorhat Campaign
Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi has intensified his campaign in Jorhat with a series of roadshows ahead of the April 9 Assembly elections, saying he senses a growing wave for change in the state. Gogoi, who is contesting from the 100 No. Jorhat Legislative Assembly Constituency, portrayed the outreach as an effort to broaden support and challenge the incumbent BJP government.
Speaking to the media, Gogoi said the campaign is gaining momentum and public backing. “We are conducting roadshows to reach small areas and streets as part of our election campaign,” he said, adding that people are eager for a leadership shift and want to remove the BJP from power.
Gogoi recently filed his nomination as the Indian National Congress candidate for Jorhat, with backing from alliance partners. He was accompanied by supporters during a rally to the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jorhat, underscoring the grassroots focus of his campaign.
Before submitting his nomination, Gogoi paid tribute to his father, former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, and visited religious sites across communities, framing his campaign around unity and communal harmony.
Targeting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gogoi accused the BJP-led government of straying from its stated ideals and argued that voters are now seeking a clean, corruption-free alternative.
Gogoi also extended his best wishes to candidates from other parties, stressing that the final decision rests with the people — a reminder that the outcome will be determined at the ballot box on April 9.
