Samsung has begun rolling out a major Quick Share update that will let Galaxy S26 phones send files directly to Apple devices, a move that could finally simplify one of the most persistent pain points between iOS and Android. The rollout starts March 23 in South Korea and Samsung says it will expand gradually to other regions, including Europe, Japan, Southeast Asia and North America. For now, the capability is limited to the Galaxy S26 series, with broader availability promised at a later date.
Quick Share is Samsung’s file‑sharing service that evolved from Google’s Nearby Share through a partnership between Samsung and Google. The new update aims to bridge the long-standing gap with Apple’s AirDrop, which has long been prized for effortless transfers across iPhones, iPads and Macs. Android users have relied on Nearby Share and third‑party apps for cross‑platform transfers, but sharing with Apple devices has typically required workarounds.
If Samsung’s implementation works reliably, it could let Galaxy owners exchange photos, videos and other files with iPhones as seamlessly as AirDrop currently allows within Apple’s ecosystem. That would be a meaningful shift: beyond camera and performance upgrades, it gives the S26 line a practical advantage for people who use both Android and iOS devices or live in mixed-device households.
This effort follows earlier attempts by other companies — notably Google — to enable smoother cross‑device sharing, but Apple’s tightly controlled ecosystem has made true interoperability difficult. Samsung’s move, if delivered without major bugs or compatibility limits, could nudge the two platforms closer to each other and change everyday device interactions for many users.
