Nagaland: Chakhroma Youth Orders Banishment of Maova Leaders
The Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) has issued a banishment order against three leaders of Maova village in Nagaland after an alleged assault on members of the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) on February 13, 2026. The CYO said the attack seriously injured volunteers and targeted the CPO president and his colleagues, prompting the organisation to demand that those responsible be produced and held accountable.
According to the CYO, villagers from Maova are accused of carrying out the assault, and the youth body gave Maova village multiple opportunities to resolve the matter peacefully. The organisation says it issued an ultimatum seeking the production of perpetrators and efforts toward an amicable settlement, but those efforts did not result in a resolution.
Citing Angami customary law and longstanding resolutions governing the Chakhroma area, the CYO named Maova Village Council Chairman Suminal Vaiphei, Head GB Seiboi Changsan, and former chairman Paoboi Changsan in its order. The body has directed the three to leave both Maova village and the wider Chakhroma jurisdiction.
The banishment notice requires the men to vacate the area within 30 days of the order and warns that failure to comply will leave them responsible for any consequences affecting their safety and welfare. The CYO framed the measure as necessary to uphold customary norms and protect community order while investigations and accountability processes proceed.
