Morigaon Orders Dumpers: Keep Goods Fully Covered or Face Fines
Morigaon: The District Road Safety Committee met on Sunday at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s Office, chaired by District Commissioner Anamika Tewari, to review implementation of earlier decisions and set new directives aimed at reducing road damage and accidents. Jinnat Ahmed, Member Secretary of the committee and Superintending Engineer, PWD (Roads), updated members on the status of actions from the previous meeting.
Expressing concern over road damage and safety risks caused by dumpers transporting earth without adequate coverings, the district commissioner ordered clear instructions that such vehicles must only operate with proper covers. She emphasized that covered loads are mandatory to prevent deterioration of public roads and to reduce the likelihood of accidents.
The commissioner also directed the district transport officer to ensure registration of all e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws operating in the district. She asked the police to identify accident-prone locations and discussed the possible installation of radar systems at such sites to curb overspeeding and improve enforcement.
To strengthen prevention efforts, Tewari called for enhanced road safety education for students through videos and other e-learning materials in schools, and she urged the organisation of special camps in colleges to facilitate issuance of driving licences to eligible students.
Additional District Commissioner Nitisha Bora instructed petrol pumps to refuse fuel to two-wheeler riders who are not wearing helmets, reinforcing helmet compliance as a safety priority. She added that enforcement drives against traffic rule violators will be carried out at various locations with members of the Road Safety Committee present.
Taken together, the committee’s measures target three key problems-damaging loads, unregistered passenger vehicles, and non-compliance with basic safety rules-with the stated aim of preserving road infrastructure and reducing traffic casualties across Morigaon.
