Emergency Unfolds in Hyderabad: Heroic Response to Ameerpet Blaze, No Casualties Thankfully!
A fire erupted on Friday morning, February 20, 2026, at the Nilgiri Block building near Maitrivanam in Ameerpet, Hyderabad, triggering a swift rescue operation by the Telangana Fire Disaster Emergency Response Department. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.
The urgency of the situation became apparent when a distress call was received at 10:59 a.m. Fire officials promptly dispatched three fire vehicles, including a specialized Bronto skylift from the Secretariat, to tackle the blaze. Approximately 15 firefighters worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of those inside, with support from local residents.
Ramesh, the Officer in Charge of the Punjagutta Fire Station, provided crucial details about the incident. “At the time of the fire, there were around 60 to 80 students on the second floor of the building,” he said. “While nearly 20 students managed to escape on their own, others were stranded and required assistance from our personnel.” The firefighters successfully rescued those still trapped, using collaboration with locals to ensure a safe evacuation.
According to officials, the fire originated in the electrical panel shaft on the ground floor of the five-story building. While the flames ignited at ground level, thick smoke quickly ascended through the shaft, posing a severe risk to those on the upper floors, particularly the second floor where many students were located. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of the firefighting team, the blaze was brought under control within roughly 30 minutes, averting further damage and potential injury.
This incident serves as a significant reminder of fire safety and the importance of rapid response in emergencies. Local authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire, and an assessment of the building’s safety measures will likely follow.
