Primula & Pretika Secure North East Zone Call-Ups — Kikam Named Coach
Sikkim players Primula Chettri and Pretika Chettri have been named in the North East Zone squad for the Senior Women’s Inter‑Zonal One Day Trophy, which begins on March 5, 2026, in Bengaluru. The appointment of Kikam Bhutia as head coach for the North East Zone accompanied the announcement, giving further recognition to Sikkim cricket.
The 15‑member North East squad was finalised by the North East Zonal Selection Committee at a meeting in Guwahati on February 13, 2026. Selection was based on recent form in national domestic competitions, with both Sikkim players rewarded for strong performances this season.
All‑rounder Primula Chettri earned her place after a standout campaign for Sikkim in the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy (Plate), contributing with both bat and ball. Batter Pretika Chettri was selected following a series of assured performances, including important runs and noted sharpness in the field.
Kikam Bhutia’s appointment as North East Zone women’s head coach marks a milestone: she is the first woman from the North East to clear the BCCI Level B coaching exam and has been a regular on zonal and national assignments. Her experience is expected to help the team prepare at the BCCI Centre of Excellence facilities in Bengaluru.
The Inter‑Zonal One Day Trophy will feature six teams — Central, East, North, North East, South and West — competing in a round‑robin league. Each team will play at least five matches in the league stage, with the top two sides advancing to the final scheduled for March 15, 2026.
Selection of two Sikkim players and a North East coach highlights the region’s growing presence in women’s domestic cricket and offers both players and staff a platform on which to stake claims for higher honours.
