Urgent Action: Delhi Police Unmask Suspect in Shocking Device Theft at India AI Impact Summit!
Delhi Police have identified a suspect connected to the theft of devices during heightened security measures surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the India AI Impact Summit. The incident took place on Monday, prompting significant concern from the affected party, Dhananjay Yadav, CEO of a local wearables startup. Yadav reported his equipment missing after he left the devices unattended at his booth, following instructions from security personnel.
In a statement to the police, Yadav expressed the emotional impact of the theft, describing it as “difficult and painful,” especially since it occurred during a security lockdown ahead of the Prime Minister’s appearance at the event. Manish Kumar Agrawal, Special Commissioner of Police (Intelligence Division), confirmed that the local police are actively investigating, with CCTV footage from the event being utilized as evidence.
Agrawal noted that, although a security locker had been provided for exhibitors, Yadav had left his items unattended for reasons not yet disclosed. “The local police have evidence of who committed the act, and we are diligently working on the case,” Agrawal stated. He further urged Yadav to formally file a report, affirming that a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged to facilitate the investigation.
Yadav shared that an initial security team had given him permission to remain at his booth after his request, particularly to showcase his company’s patented technology-India’s first AI wearable. However, as the event escalated toward more stringent security protocols, another team instructed him to leave the area for “sanitization.”
After re-entry was permitted around 6:30 p.m., Yadav requested a volunteer to safeguard his device while he briefly stepped away. Unfortunately, upon returning, he discovered that his devices were missing. The police continue their inquiries into the incident, aiming to resolve the matter efficiently.
This case highlights ongoing concerns over security protocols during high-profile events, especially given the entrepreneurial spirit inherent in India’s burgeoning tech landscape. As investigations proceed, the focus remains on safeguarding exhibitors’ interests while ensuring that such incidents do not detract from the visibility and achievements of India’s thriving technology sector.
The situation has raised questions surrounding the stewardship of security during significant events, with calls for more robust measures to protect the innovations that represent India’s digital future. As the investigation unfolds, stakeholders are hoping for a swift resolution to restore faith in the security protocols designed to protect participants and exhibitors alike.
