In a significant bust, authorities have seized 1,920 ganja-infused chocolates weighing 9.6 kilograms in Hyderabad. The State Task Force (STF) of the Excise Department arrested B. Vikash Sharma, a resident of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly selling thandai-a traditional milk-based drink-mixed with these illicit chocolates. Sharma was reportedly operating from Begum Bazaar, where he sold regular thandai for ₹50 per glass, but attracted attention for his special version priced at ₹150, infused with a dose of ganja.

According to excise officials, the raid stemmed from a tip-off, leading the team to his residence in Uppuguda, within the jurisdiction of the Charminar excise station. During the operation, officials recovered the impressive stash of ganja chocolates, each containing about five grams of marijuana. The chocolates had been transported from Agra to meet the escalating demand during the Holi festivities, a time when festive indulgences often see a surge.

The drugs were seized, and Sharma, along with the confiscated contraband and a two-wheeler linked to the operation, was taken to the Charminar Excise Station for further legal proceedings. The STF’s swift action highlights the ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal drug trade, especially with events like Holi prompting heightened vigilance from law enforcement.

The sale of such products poses significant health risks and legal issues, raising concerns in the community. Officers emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding the dangers associated with consuming unauthorized substances, particularly those marketed under the guise of traditional or festive drinks.

As this case unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the challenges authorities face in combatting drug-related offenses and the need for continuous education on safe and responsible consumption during celebrations. Further investigations are expected as law enforcement delves deeper into the network responsible for distributing these harmful products.
