Guwahati police arrested a man identified by authorities as a veteran snatcher in connection with Dispur Police Station Case No. 72/26, registered under Section 304(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. The accused has been named as Raju Ali, a resident of Solmari in Rangia, and his arrest was carried out with assistance from Panbazar Police Station.
Following Ali’s disclosure, police mounted a raid and search operation at Mukalmuya with help from local officers and staff from Jalukbari Police Station. During the operation, investigators recovered 32.90 grams of gold, cash totalling Rs 2,74,500, two mobile phones, silver ornaments and one motorcycle bearing registration number AS01 GD 9546.
Authorities say legal proceedings have been initiated and that further investigation is under way to determine whether the recovered items are connected to other crimes. Police have not disclosed additional details about any victims or related incidents pending ongoing inquiries.
