USTM Clinches 18th Rank in Fortune 100 National Institutional Index 2026
Ri-Bhoi, Feb 17 — The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has been ranked 18th in the Fortune 100 National Institutional Index 2026, winning international recognition for its work in promoting education aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN 2030 Agenda. The index placement was announced after the National Institutional Index was unveiled at the Global Conference on Education for Sustainable Future (GCE2026) held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, on 11 February 2026.
USTM’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. G. D. Sharma, received a Certificate of Recognition on behalf of the university during the event, formally acknowledging USTM’s inclusion among the Fortune 100 institutions. The honour was presented in the presence of several dignitaries, including Lyonpo Yeezang De Thapa, Minister of Education & Skill Development, Royal Government of Bhutan; Andrew Egan, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Bangkok; Michel Parys, Ambassador of Belgium to Thailand; Dr. Datchnamoorthy Ramu, Chairman of the SDG Council and UN Representative in India; Gokulnath Mathiyazhagan, Secretary General of the SDG Council; and Roohi Mohazzab Ghani, founder of The Children Movement for Climate Compassion.
The Fortune 100 National Institutional Index used a rigorous, multidimensional evaluation framework that assessed academic excellence and innovation, institutional governance and leadership, the depth and societal impact of research, and demonstrable commitment to sustainability in line with the SDGs. USTM’s 18th-place ranking reflects its sustained focus on responsible education, climate awareness, sustainable innovation and inclusive development.
According to the release, the university has integrated SDG principles across curricula, research programs, campus operations and community outreach-efforts the index cited as central to its holistic appraisal of long-term institutional quality and societal impact.
