Unlock Your Adventure: Maruti eVitara BaaS Now Available at an Impressive Rs 10.99 L!

Maruti Suzuki has officially entered the electric vehicle market in India with the launch of the eVitara, but the full ex-showroom pricing remains undisclosed. The company has released the introductory Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) pricing, starting at Rs 10.99 lakh for the Delta variant. However, this figure does not include the cost of the battery itself, which will incur an additional charge of Rs 3.99 per kilometer for battery usage. By adopting a BaaS model, Maruti aims to lower the initial purchase cost of its inaugural electric SUV significantly, though details on complete ownership pricing across all variants are still pending.

The Rs 10.99 lakh price tag applies exclusively to the vehicle without the battery, requiring customers to pay upfront for the eVitara and then handle battery costs based on usage. This strategic pricing move positions the eVitara to compete aggressively against internal combustion engine (ICE) SUVs in the Rs 10–15 lakh range, potentially attracting buyers who have previously hesitated due to high upfront electric vehicle prices.

Under the Nexa Edge ownership package, Maruti provides several attractive features, including a 60% assured buyback after three years, an eight-year warranty (covering both the vehicle and battery, with the option to extend), a complimentary home charger and installation valued at Rs 50,000, and one year of free charging.

Built on Maruti Suzuki’s dedicated HEARTECT-e electric platform, the eVitara is currently in production at the company’s Gujarat facility, with exports already initiated to markets such as the UK, Europe, and Japan. The manufacturer has ambitious plans for its EV ecosystem, aiming to establish over 2,000 charging points across 1,100 cities, with the ultimate goal of more than 100,000 public charging points by 2030.

Safety is also a priority for the eVitara, which has earned a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP for both adult and child occupant protection. Key safety features include seven airbags as standard, Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, all-disc brakes, an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold, a high tensile strength structure, and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) alongside parking sensors.

In terms of design, the eVitara showcases a robust SUV silhouette with strong cladding and 18-inch aero alloys, highlighted by the signature NEXtre three-point LED daytime running lights and tail lamps. Inside, it offers a premium experience featuring a 10.1-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, a 10-way powered driver seat, a fixed glass roof, ambient lighting, and advanced audio by Infinity from Harman. The rear seats allow for sliding and reclining options in a 40:20:40 split configuration.

The eVitara offers two battery options: a 49 kWh battery generating 144 PS and 193 Nm of torque, and a more robust 61 kWh battery delivering 174 PS and the same torque, with a claimed range of up to 543 km. Notably, there are currently no all-wheel-drive variants available.

In summary, while Maruti Suzuki’s eVitara marks a significant step into India’s electric SUV arena, prospective buyers are still awaiting the complete pricing structure, particularly regarding battery ownership models. The competitive starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh positions the eVitara against contenders such as MG’s Windsor, which starts at Rs 9.99 lakh, as the market eagerly anticipates further details in the increasingly vital EV segment.
