Kohima, February 13, 2026 — The first cohort of trainees at the Drone School — Drone Centre of Excellence housed in the Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre (NGISRSC) — completed a 14-day FPV (first-person view) drone training programme on February 13, officials said. Certificates were presented at the valedictory ceremony by Temsunaro Aier, IAS, Development Commissioner, Planning and Transformation Department, Government of Nagaland, according to a DIPR report.

At the programme, Development Commissioner Aier acknowledged the support of the Nagaland Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Mission (NSEDM) for the state initiative and praised the trainers for their professionalism. She stressed the need to maintain high standards when teaching technical skills and highlighted drone operations as an emerging technology with significant uses in governance, planning, disaster response and development work. Aier urged trainees to stay future-ready by continuously upgrading their skills.

Linking skills training to employability, the Development Commissioner said academic qualifications alone are often insufficient for sustainable employment and described drone technology as a vital 21st-century skill. Citing the Union Budget’s focus on boosting manufacturing and assembly, she encouraged trainees to explore opportunities in indigenous manufacturing aligned with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. She also recommended trainees pursue the DGCA Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) training at the Drone Centre in a subsequent phase to enhance professional prospects.

Graduates gave positive feedback on the course structure and practical exposure and expressed interest in advanced programmes. Aier announced two additional specialised non-DGCA courses to meet state needs: Drone Cinematography and Drone GIS Mapping & Survey.

The second batch of ten trainees began Drone Repair & Maintenance training the same day, reflecting rising demand for structured drone skills in Nagaland. The event was attended by the Additional Development Commissioner, senior departmental officials and representatives from NSEDM. The Drone School was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio on January 26, 2026.
