Breaking: Rajpal Yadav Pays Half in Cheque Bounce Case
Actor Rajpal Yadav’s legal representative, Bhaskar Upadhyay, said half of the amount disputed in the actor’s financial insolvency case — roughly Rs 2.5 crore of an alleged Rs 5 crore — has been paid, and further details are expected after upcoming court proceedings. The disclosure came as Yadav remains in custody following a Delhi High Court direction in connection with multiple cheque-bounce cases linked to a loan he took to finance the 2010 film Ata Pata Laapata.
Upadhyay said his team sought an adjournment of Thursday’s hearing because the bail application they had filed required a response from the opposing party. The actor’s manager told reporters he will meet Yadav in jail to get instructions on the remaining payment and to clarify Yadav’s position; the manager added that clearer answers are likely to emerge on Monday when the matter is next taken up in court.
The actor’s camp said negotiations are under way concerning a 2012 agreement, noting that three months of some agreed period have already been served. Upadhyay and the manager also stressed that earlier attempts to settle had been complicated — “the company had refused to take money” when earlier offers were made — and said they could not disclose who provided funds to Yadav, calling that a family matter.
Summing up the financial position, the manager said, “Out of the five crores so far, two and a half crores have been given. See what the court decides on Monday.” The case stems from cheque bounce complaints filed after Yadav was unable to repay the loan taken for his film; the court-directed surrender and ongoing hearings will determine the next legal and financial steps.
