Seven people were killed in a multiple-vehicle crash on Friday morning on the Hoskote–Devaspet highway in Bengaluru after an SUV reportedly lost control, struck a motorcycle and then collided with a laden truck, police said. The accident occurred near M. Satyabari village on the Hoskote–Devaspet stretch, authorities added.
According to police, the SUV first hit the motorcycle from behind and then moved forward into the parked or slow-moving truck. Six occupants of the SUV and the motorcycle rider were pronounced dead at the scene, bringing the death toll to seven. The truck sustained visible damage.
Local residents alerted law enforcement and police reached the site to carry out rescue and recovery operations. Officials said there were six people inside the SUV at the time of the crash; all six were among the deceased. The identity of the victims has not yet been confirmed.
Bengaluru Rural Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances of the collision. Officers said the victims are believed to be residents of the area and that they were travelling in the direction of Davanahalli.
Police suspect that excessive speed by the SUV may have caused the driver to lose control, but the exact cause of the crash remains under probe. Investigators continue to collect evidence and statements from witnesses to determine the sequence of events.
