Manipur Probe Launched to Identify Perpetrators of Litan Violence
Manipur Deputy Chief Minister L. Dikho said on February 10 that authorities were working to identify those responsible for recent violence in Litan, Ukhrul district, while coordinating with multiple stakeholders to stabilise the area. He said the state government, security forces and civil society were engaged to restore order and prevent further escalation.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme, Dikho said coordination was continuing among the chief minister, the government, security forces and civil society groups. “We are trying to meet everyone and make them understand. There are positive signs,” he said, adding that an immediate resolution might not be possible but that “hopefully things will improve soon.”
The Naga People’s Front leader said the perpetrators had not yet been identified and acknowledged initial confusion after reports of firing and houses being set ablaze. He said the situation was becoming clearer, that government efforts were producing results, and that the situation was “gradually cooling down.” He appealed for public cooperation to help authorities restore normalcy.
Separately, the Manipur government has extended suspension of internet services in Lhungtin sub-division of Kangpokpi district and Phungyar sub-division of Kamjong district for five days with immediate effect. The Home Department said the decision was prompted by concerns that anti-social elements could use social media to circulate content capable of inciting public passions and disrupting law and order in the state.
Officials said investigations and stakeholder consultations are continuing as security measures remain in place. Authorities urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement and avoid sharing unverified information that could inflame tensions.
