Unleashing Innovation: India AI Impact Summit Reveals Game-Changing Migration of BHASHINI to Indian Cloud Platform!

India’s cloud landscape is witnessing a significant shift as Yotta Data Services collaborates with the Digital India BHASHINI Division to transition BHASHINI’s language AI platform from a global hyperscaler to an entirely Indian cloud infrastructure. This strategic migration to Yotta’s Government Community Cloud and Shakti Cloud ensures that all datasets, models, and user interactions remain within Indian jurisdiction, enhancing data sovereignty.

The successful migration was highlighted during a pre-summit event for the upcoming India AI Impact Summit 2026. It follows a robust deployment at the Maha Kumbh 2025, where BHASHINI provided real-time translation and voice assistance in over 11 Indian languages, catering to millions of visitors with a specially designed multilingual assistant.

This migration, executed over two to three months, encompassed BHASHINI’s complete AI stack, including multilingual datasets, APIs, containerized services, orchestration pipelines, and storage solutions. Utilizing Yotta’s Shakti Cloud, powered by Nvidia H100 GPUs, the new infrastructure is built on open-source and cloud-neutral components, illustrating India’s capability to manage extensive AI workloads effectively.

During the transition, more than 200 terabytes of data and over 3.5 billion files were moved without any reported data loss. The redesigned platform is characterized as modular and reusable, making it adaptable for several ministries, public sector units, and large-scale national initiatives.

Amitabh Nag, CEO of Digital India BHASHINI Division, emphasized that this transition grants BHASHINI enhanced control, resilience, and scalability, allowing it to better serve India’s linguistic diversity. He stated, “The move to Yotta’s sovereign AI cloud strengthens our ability to deliver inclusive, real-time multilingual services and marks a significant advancement in Digital Public Infrastructure in AI.” This step is seen as pivotal for future AI deployments as efforts continue toward establishing a fully sovereign stack.

Yotta’s involvement positions the project as a landmark for deploying extensive AI operations within an Indian cloud framework. Sunil Gupta, Co-founder and CEO of Yotta Data Services, remarked, “This transition demonstrates that hyperscale, mission-critical AI platforms can be effectively built and managed entirely within sovereign infrastructure, validating India’s ability to execute advanced AI tasks on open, interoperable systems.”

BHASHINI, part of India’s Digital India initiative, serves as an AI language platform dedicated to translation, speech recognition, and text-to-speech tools tailored for Indian languages. Supporting more than 36 languages in text format and over 22 languages in voice, it is integrated into various government services and applications. The aim is to enhance engagement with digital services for users through regional languages, facilitating access to forms, advisories, and essential public information beyond just English.

The migration to Yotta’s state-of-the-art cloud infrastructure represents a significant stride in India’s AI ambitions. Framed by the government as part of a broader initiative to establish a “sovereign” AI stack, both the computing infrastructure and data will remain under Indian oversight, especially critical for expansive public platforms.

With BHASHINI’s evolution, India moves closer to achieving its vision of an inclusive, AI-driven digital future, leveraging local capabilities to foster technological self-reliance.
