New Delhi, Feb 9, 2026 — India on Monday announced a Special Economic Package of USD 175 million for Seychelles during talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, pledging fresh lines of credit, grants and technical support to bolster development, security and climate resilience across the island nation. The package includes a USD 125 million Rupee‑denominated Line of Credit (LoC) and USD 50 million in grant assistance, the joint statement said.
The leaders adopted a “Joint Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages” (SESEL), under which India reiterated its role as a development partner focused on sustainability, defence and maritime security, capacity building, resilience and inclusive growth. India also reaffirmed support through Lines of Credit, grants, capacity‑building programmes and High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) aimed at local needs.
Modi and Herminie agreed to deepen cooperation on digital transformation. India will help build Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for Seychelles — including digital payments and other e‑governance tools — tailored to the country’s requirements to digitise public services and improve citizen access.
Health and human resources were prominent items. Herminie thanked Modi for India’s donation of 10 ambulances. The two sides said recognition of the Indian Pharmacopoeia by Seychelles would streamline procurement of quality assured medicines and facilitate collaboration under India’s Jan Aushadhi affordable‑medicine initiative. They also agreed to institutional linkages for mental health training, exchange visits, and recruitment or deputation of medical specialists, nurses, paramedics and technicians from India.
The leaders committed to bolster public‑health cooperation through exchanges and to jointly support building a new hospital in Seychelles. They also agreed to deepen collaboration on renewable energy and climate resilience, citing solar projects implemented under the International Solar Alliance (ISA) that have delivered community benefits in agriculture and healthcare.
To strengthen disaster preparedness and green transitions, both countries backed implementation of Multi‑Hazard Early Warning Systems. India offered technical assistance for Seychelles’ power‑grid management and its shift toward green public transport. Modi and Herminie said they would explore further projects in energy conservation, renewable energy and green mobility to meet Seychelles’ development needs, according to the joint statement.
