India Denies Ties to Islamabad Bombing: Strong Rebuttal Amidst Tensions
India has firmly rejected Pakistan’s allegations linking it to a suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad, which resulted in at least 31 fatalities. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the attack, expressing sorrow over the loss of life and criticizing Pakistan for deflecting attention from its internal issues by blaming others for its challenges.
The tragic incident occurred during Friday prayers at the Khadijah al-Kubra mosque-cum-imambargah in the Tarlai area of Islamabad, injuring 169 others. This bombing coincided with a two-day visit from Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In its statement, the MEA described the attack as “condemnable” and stated that Pakistan should focus on addressing the root problems affecting its society instead of “deluding” itself with unfounded accusations. “India rejects any and every such allegation, which is as baseless as it is pointless,” the statement added.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed, without presenting any evidence, that India and Afghanistan were involved in the operation. He alleged in a social media post that the terrorist behind the attack had traveled between Afghanistan and Pakistan. “The collusion between India and Afghanistan is being revealed,” he asserted.
While violent attacks in Islamabad have been relatively rare, there has been a notable increase in militant activity across Pakistan recently, largely attributed to Baloch separatist factions and the Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). This group, although distinct, has ties with the Taliban in Afghanistan. Additionally, a regional affiliate of the Islamic State has also been operational in the region.
Initial reports indicated a lower casualty count, but Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon confirmed the latest figures following the explosion.
