As the 2026 Assam Assembly elections draw near, the Dhubri district administration has launched a significant awareness campaign focused on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) systems. This initiative aims to boost voter confidence and encourage informed participation in the electoral process. The campaign is in response to directives from the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, emphasizing the need to familiarize voters with EVM operation and ensure transparent voting.
The awareness drive commenced with the inauguration of an exhibition polling booth by Additional District Commissioner Debajyoti Gogoi. This booth is designed to provide citizens with a hands-on experience, helping them understand how votes are cast, recorded, and verified through the VVPAT mechanism.
Additionally, ADC Gogoi inaugurated specially equipped mobile vans that will travel through all five assembly constituencies in Dhubri district. These vans are set to reach both rural and urban areas, including local markets and weekly haats, to extend outreach efforts. Each mobile unit is equipped with EVM and VVPAT demonstration systems, allowing citizens to engage in mock voting exercises and clarify any questions they may have about the technology.
Officials highlighted that the core goal of this campaign is to empower voters with practical knowledge, enabling them to cast their votes confidently on polling day. By bringing the voting machines directly to the public, the administration aims to improve voter awareness, minimize errors during actual polling, and promote higher voter turnout.
The awareness program will continue throughout the district in the upcoming weeks, with particular attention given to remote and interior areas. This effort ensures a comprehensive outreach strategy leading up to the 2026 Assembly elections.
