Mahindra Unleashes Ambition: Rs 15,000 Cr Investment for Groundbreaking New Plant!
Mahindra Group has unveiled plans for its largest integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This ambitious project, set to commence production in 2028, marks a significant expansion of Mahindra’s manufacturing operations in India. The announcement, made during the Advantage Vidarbha summit, underscores the company’s commitment to establishing the Vidarbha region as a key industrial hub. Mahindra intends to invest ₹15,000 crore over the next decade, acquiring more than 2,000 acres across three sites in the state.
Spanning over 1,500 acres, the Nagpur facility will be supported by a 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar. Once fully operational, it aims to achieve an annual production capacity exceeding 500,000 vehicles and 100,000 tractors, making it the largest manufacturing complex in Mahindra’s portfolio. The supplier park will enhance collaboration with component partners, bolster local sourcing, and lower logistics costs. It will serve not only the Nagpur plant but also Mahindra’s existing facilities in Chakan and Nashik.
The strategic location in Vidarbha offers key advantages, including excellent road connectivity via the Samruddhi Expressway and strong rail infrastructure, facilitating access to vital domestic and export markets. Mahindra stated that this location aligns perfectly with its long-term manufacturing and logistics strategies. The new automotive plant will focus on next-generation vehicle platforms, including the NU_IQ architecture, capable of producing internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, electric vehicles, and future powertrain technologies for both domestic and global markets.
Emphasizing innovation, the facility will incorporate advanced automation and digital manufacturing systems, alongside sustainability-focused processes. This state-of-the-art tractor manufacturing unit will further strengthen Mahindra’s leadership in the farm equipment sector to meet both rising domestic demand and key international markets.
In addition to the Nagpur facility, Mahindra plans to acquire land in the Igatpuri-Nashik region to expand current product and engine capabilities. This initiative will also support the growth of Mahindra’s Advanced Technology business, reinforcing its commitment to future-ready mobility solutions.
Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, lauded Mahindra’s decision, describing it as a testament to the state’s robust industrial ecosystem and progressive policies. He emphasized that this landmark investment will generate substantial employment and promote regional development in Vidarbha, enhancing Maharashtra’s position as a leading manufacturing hub in India.
Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra’s Auto and Farm Sector, highlighted that this facility marks a significant leap in Mahindra’s manufacturing journey. Designed to support the next generation of vehicles and tractors, it combines scalability, flexibility, and advanced technology within a single integrated footprint. Jejurikar reaffirmed the company’s commitment to “Make in India for the World,” illustrating Mahindra’s dedication to deepening its partnership with Maharashtra through this transformative investment.
This extensive investment underscores Mahindra’s strategy to strengthen its manufacturing base in India, positioning the company for future growth across both automotive and farm equipment sectors, while also contributing to regional development and the nation’s broader industrial aspirations.
