Arunachal Pradesh University Faculty: Pioneering Women’s Voices at Global Conference
Dr. Menuka Kadu, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Social Work at Arunachal Pradesh University in Pasighat, will represent Northeast India at the 9th International Conference on the Future of Women 2026, scheduled to take place in Bali, Indonesia, from February 9 to 10. This significant event is organized by the International Institute of Knowledge Management (IIKM) in partnership with various universities and academic institutions across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. The conference focuses on the theme “Feminist Perspectives in GLocal Contexts.”
As the only representative from Northeast India, Dr. Kadu will present her research paper at this global forum, which aims to bring together scholars, practitioners, and advocates worldwide. Her paper, titled “Silenced Bodies, Formed Identities: Tribal Girls’ Menstrual Experiences in Northeast India,” explores the impact of menstrual taboos on social identity, bodily autonomy, and early gender socialization among adolescent girls in selected tribal communities. This study utilizes qualitative narratives from Galo, Adi, and Idu Mishmi communities, highlighting daily practices of restriction and exclusion, as well as the evolving forms of resistance shaped by changing social conditions.
Dr. Kadu’s participation aims to shed light on indigenous and region-specific issues from Northeast India, thereby contributing to broader discussions in feminist studies and social work research on an international scale. Her work not only emphasizes the unique challenges faced by tribal girls in her region but also serves to enrich the global dialogue surrounding women’s issues.
